In my view this kind of evidence broadly supports the relatively early date that I advocate. My interpretation of Deuteronomy is based on the assumption that the picture of Israel’s ancient covenant with Yahweh is realistic (not only with Kline and others, but also, in general terms, with Day [1986b] and Andersen & Freedman [1980]). I have preferred, however, not to try to date the book exactly, but to look for the place that it had in the life of Israel. This approach gives the most satisfying answers,
